Troubleshooting
Common problems in Srishti, the message you see, why it happens and what to do about it.
- Everyone
Most problems in Srishti are a rule doing its job: a missing page access, a team or escalation contact not set, or a step not finished yet. Find the message or symptom below. Messages in bold are quoted as the app shows them.
If none of these fit, ask the project's PM about project questions, or an admin (someone with User Management: Action) about access and people.
Signing in and access
“You do not have access to Srishti yet”
Srishti only lets in people an admin has added in User Management, signing in with that exact company Google account. You see this when you are not added yet, when you were removed, or when you chose a different Google account. Ask an admin to add you; if you were removed earlier, adding your email again restores your account.
“We couldn’t sign you in”
The sign-in did not complete, for example because it was interrupted or the page was old. Choose Sign in with Google again. If it keeps happening, contact an admin.
A page is missing from the menu
The menu shows only what your page access allows. My Activities and Approvals & Alerts are there for everyone. For the rest, ask an admin to change the module in your page access:
| Menu item | Needs at least View on |
|---|---|
| Portfolio | Portfolio |
| Projects | Projects |
| Activity Templates, Document Storage | Templates |
| User Management | User Management |
I was signed out and cannot get back in
If an admin changed your email in User Management, your sessions ended and your sign-in moved to the new address. Sign in with the Google account for the new email.
Templates and document storage
I can't edit a template
The editor says Read-only, and an Active template shows Published. Only its creator can edit it. Duplicate it to make a copy of your own. Only the person who created a template can change it, and only with Templates: Action. Choose Duplicate to make a Draft of your own. With Templates: View you can only look.
“This template can't be published yet”
The notice lists every problem: an activity with no team or no tasks, a mandatory Checkbox or Field Input task with no mandatory item, a predecessor on the first row, or a non-mandatory activity used as a predecessor. Fix each one and publish again. If it says Save the template details first, save the name, type or description you changed. See What publishing checks.
A template is not offered when creating a project
Only Active templates are listed, so a Draft must be published first. If picking an Active template says This template is being edited and isn't complete, so it can't be used for a new project yet, its creator's latest edit left a problem; they see it listed in the editor and must fix it.
I can't change a template's document storage
An Active template keeps the document storage it has, because projects made from it use that structure. Duplicate the template to use a different one. On a Draft, Document Upload tasks already reference documents from the current storage template means you must remove or change those tasks first.
I can't rename or delete a folder or document
The message says the structure is used by named activity templates. While any template uses it, folders, subfolders and documents can be added but not renamed or deleted. This document is still used by a project or a deleted activity template, so it cannot be deleted means a project's task points at it. To reshape the structure, Duplicate it and pick the copy on new templates.
A document storage structure won't publish
Every folder needs a document, directly or in a subfolder, and every subfolder needs a document of its own. The message names each empty one. Add a document to each, or remove the empty folder, then publish.
Projects and schedules
The schedule won't calculate
- Start date required: set Activity 1's start date in its row, then Calculate schedule.
- Circular dependency: 2 → 3 → 2.: the activities named wait on each other. Remove one of those predecessors.
- Schedule out of date — recalculate to continue: something changed since the last calculation. Choose Recalculate schedule.
The project can't be created
Creation is refused until every activity that does the work has a team, an owner and at least one task, and one to three baseline approvers are named. The message says which: Every activity needs a team…, …an owner…, …at least one task…, or Name one to three baseline approvers before creating the project. If an owner you expect is not offered, they are probably on another team; ask an admin.
Approvals
An approval isn't showing for me
- Only the named approvers see a request as theirs. For a project, those are the one to three people its PM picked; anyone else who opens it reads You can review this request, but only its named approvers can decide.
- A new project within its template is created straight away, so there is nothing to approve.
- Approvals awaiting you is hidden when nothing is waiting, so the page may start with Pending Approvals.
- Activity approvals under Pending Approvals need the Approver flag. If an admin removed yours, they no longer show for you.
My decision is refused
- You cannot approve a baseline change on your own project. or You cannot approve your own project. Another named approver must decide it. You can still turn it down yourself: Request changes in round 1 of a new project, Reject otherwise.
- A comment is required… or A reason for rejection is required. Write why you are sending it back or rejecting it; the next person has to act on it.
- This approval changed since you opened the page. Someone decided it, or it moved on. Read the refreshed list again.
Documents and tasks
A document isn't visible to me
Unless you are the PM, on the uploading team, the uploader or one of its reviewers, a document opens for you only after its trigger has fired (on upload, on check or on approval), and only if your team is in its Visible to list and you are assigned to an activity in the project, or the PM granted you access. On the project's Documents tab, a document you cannot see yet shows as Pending, like one never uploaded. See Who sees a document.
I can't upload a document
- A new version can only be uploaded while the activity is open for work. The activity is still waiting for its predecessors, or has already moved on.
- This document is already uploaded for this activity. Remove it first if you need to upload a different file. Remove your upload while it is still Uploaded, then upload the right file.
- A closed project can no longer be modified. Nothing can be uploaded to a closed project.
- Unsupported file type. Upload the document in another format.
“No preview for this file type — view-only access”
You were granted View only, and this file is a type a browser cannot show, such as Word or Excel. Ask the PM for View & Download.
Mark task complete stays off
Something mandatory is not done: an item to tick, a field to fill or a document to upload. A review task's button stays off until the document it reviews is ready for you. If the task will not let you submit at all, ask the PM whether the activity is assigned to you.
People and notifications
I can't remove a person
<name> can't be deleted yet lists the open projects, saved drafts included, where they are the PM. A project cannot be left without a PM, and nothing in Srishti changes the PM today, so the person can be removed only once those projects are closed or the drafts deleted. You also cannot remove yourself: You cannot delete your own account.
I can't remove someone's Approver flag
This person is the escalation contact for N people, and escalation contacts must be approvers. Give those people another escalation contact first, then remove the flag. The same rule means you can only pick approvers as anyone's escalation level 1 or 2.
I didn't get an email
- Only some notifications are emailed: approvals waiting on you, re-baselines to approve, due-today and four-days-overdue escalations, and tags. Others go to Slack only or stay in the app. See What you are told about.
- Find the notification on Approvals & Alerts. If it says Couldn’t be sent to Slack or email, sending failed; the notification in the app is still there.
- Messages go to the email on your Srishti account. If that is wrong, ask an admin.
Nobody was told that an activity was late
The due-date escalation goes to the owner's escalation level 1. If the owner shows — (top of chain) in User Management, there is nobody to tell. Give them an escalation level 1. See What an empty L1 means.
“Conversations are for this project's members”
You can open the project page but are not one of its members, so you cannot see its threads. Members include the PM and everyone assigned to an activity in the project. See Conversations.
